UEFA Super Cup makes a surprise visit to summer football camp in Limavady

Young footballers in Limavady have enjoyed an opportunity to get up close with one of the game’s most prestigious trophies.

The UEFA Super Cup made a guest appearance at a football camp at Scroggy Road yesterday hosted in partnership by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council and the Irish Football Association.

The visit is part of the build up to the UEFA Super Cup final which takes place at Windsor Park in Belfast on August 11th when Champions League winners Chelsea take on Europa League winners Villarreal.

Council’s Sport and Wellbeing Development Unit were delighted to be selected to host the trophy which created an extra special day for the young participants at the summer camp.

Councillor Richard Holmes, Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, also took the opportunity to see the famous trophy during the visit to Limavady.

Commenting afterwards, he said: “For these young people this was a once-in-a-lifetime chance and their excitement was fantastic to see. What a wonderful experience for them, and something they will remember for a long time.

“We are grateful to the IFA for including Limavady on their promotional tour and inspiring the next generation in this way.

“Our joint football camps show the fantastic working relationship we share and how both organisations value the importance of getting our young people back to playing sport together.”
